Causes of Thyroid Cancer, Thyroid cancer staging

Shaped like a shield, the thyroid is located at the front of the neck, with the function of releasing thyroid hormones to regulate metabolism. The cause of thyroid cancer is unknown. However, radiation exposure, sudden genetic changes, inheritance and female hormones may increase the chances of getting thyroid cancer.

Symptoms of Thyroid Cancer

There are four stages of thyroid cancer. At the early stage, chances of recovery are high. However, as symptoms are unnoticeable, many patients fail to discover any abnormalities in the neck until the tumour grows to a size that places pressure on the trachea, causing difficulty in breathing and even swallowing. It is not until a later stage when patients seek help. Hence, it is advisable to seek medical help once you discover any lumps or abnormalities in the neck.
